innotek VirtualBox and Gardening
The first: a “powerful x86 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use.” The second: the reason this site has the swampy smell of stagnant water.

innotek VirtualBox has been my first real attempt at using virtualization software, and the experience has been awesome. Using this tutorial, I was able to set up an Ubuntu 7.04 virtual machine in about 30 minutes. The next day, I set up an XP Pro virtual machine, again without a hitch. Both virtual machines connected to my network flawlessly, and I was able to apply all software updates to each. I’m running them off of my external hard drive.
Since the weather’s been nice, Erin and I have been out almost every evening and weekend, working on our yard and garden. This is our fourth summer here, and the yard finally feels manageable — like we’re maintaining it instead of re-landscaping it. Feels good. And, frankly, it’s nice to get a break from the screen.
Anyway, a review of HateML is forthcoming, and now that I’ve got Ubuntu, there should be a new Linux editor review or two on the horizon as well.
