Celebrity Interview: Mike Papageorge
Mike Papageorge is a web developer who builds standards based websites and applications (ruby, php) from the south-east coast of Spain. When not in front of the computer he can be found at the beach with his wife (he doesn’t get down there enough, really) or chasing other hobbies.
1. What OS/platform do you primarily develop in?
WinXP. We’re thinking of migrating to Mac in the future now that they dual boot.
2. What’s your (X)HTML editor of choice for coding websites?
3. How did you decide on this as your primary editor?
I learned how to code using Homesite, and when I left the company that I started web development work with I simply migrated to Dreamweaver once they absorbed Homesite. I hand code most everything, so the main reason that I haven’t switched is that Dreamweaver does some basics that I need it to: integrated ftp and customizable syntax hiliting.
4. What’s the one (or more) feature of the software you couldn’t live without?
The integrated FTP (+SFTP) and site definitions, hands down. The find is super powerful as well — very handy.
5. If you were in charge of choosing new features for this piece of software, what feature(s) would you add?
- Themes for syntax hiliting.
- Improved site definition functionality. It would be great if every file was aware of where it had to upload to. At the moment if you have two files open from two different sites, you can’t upload the file from the non-active site until you select it from the site-selector in the Files pane. Major PITA.
- Some type of integrated file versioning would be nice.
6. Bonus Unrelated Question: What’s the best book you’ve read in the last year?
In Pursuit of Excellence: How to Win in Sport and Life Through Mental Training [.com|.ca] by Terry Orlick.
