Celebrity Interview: Matt Mullenweg
Matt Mullenweg, according to Google, is the #1 most important Matt in the world, but really is just a kid born and raised in Houston, Texas. He writes code, prose, and music and has been known to take a few pictures too. Matt is the founding developer of WordPress as well as the founder of Automattic, which is the company behind WordPress.com, Akismet, and more to come.
1. What OS/platform do you primarily develop in?
Usually Windows.
2. What’s your (X)HTML editor of choice for coding websites?
Dreamweaver MX 2004.
3. How did you decide on this as your primary editor?
Unicode support, great project handling, integrated SFTP, PHP highlighting and syntax hints, great UI with handy shortcuts, global search and replace with regex.
4. What’s the one (or more) feature of the software you couldn’t live without?
The global find.
5. If you were in charge of choosing new features for this piece of software, what feature(s) would you add?
More PHP IDE type features, better handling of the background SFTP operations while on dodgy connections. The whole thing is pretty handy as it is though, I’m more worried they’ll mess it up with new features.
6. Bonus Unrelated Question: What’s the best book you’ve read in the last year?
Ambient Findability [.com|.ca] by Peter Morville.
