Celebrity Interview: Jonathan Snook
Jonathan Snook is a freelance web developer. With over six years of web agency experience, he has brought his talents to projects with clients such as FedEx, Apple, Red Bull, and the Canadian Red Cross. Jonathan also expounds on web development and design on his personal blog and over at Digital Web Magazine.
1. What OS/platform do you primarily develop in?
I’m a Windows guy. I have been since the DOS days and don’t see that changing any time soon.
2. What’s your (X)HTML editor of choice for coding websites?
UltraEdit (with a side of UltraCompare and Dreamweaver). I get the feeling UltraEdit is more popular in the C/C++ crowd.
3. How did you decide on this as your primary editor?
When I first got into web development I used to work with this guy who used it all the time. I started using it as a result.
4. What’s the one (or more) feature of the software you couldn’t live without?
UltraEdit: Column selection. Select text in a block over multiple lines instead of starting at some point in line 1 and ending at some point in line X. Dreamweaver: Search and Replace. Best. Feature. Ever.
5. If you were in charge of choosing new features for this piece of software, what feature(s) would you add?
I wish UltraEdit had better code-completion. That’s minor. And better recognition of multiple programming languages in one file.
6. Bonus Unrelated Question: What’s the best book you’ve read in the last year?
Ha, I don’t read books! The only book I’ve read this year is Blog Design Solutions [.com|.ca], which was a good overview of the major blogging tools.
